41. Revisiting my birth story as I prepare to give birth again
+My top baby, pregnancy, breastfeeding and postpartum essentials from Amazon.
Being pregnant again with baby number two has resurfaced a lot of memories and feelings about giving birth. Something that has been helpful for me in the past year as my husband and I have been anticipating having more children is revisiting and sharing my experience giving birth the first time.
But before we revisit my first birth experience, I’d first like to share something else that has been on my mind while preparing for our next baby: baby, pregnancy, breastfeeding and postpartum essentials.
With becoming a mother for a second time, I think I’ve learned a thing or two about what is needed and what is not needed when it comes to essentials and supplies for pregnancy, postpartum, breastfeeding and baby care- so I’ve put together a list of my top picks that can all be found on Amazon.
It’s also Prime Day, so be sure to check out my top Prime Day Picks not just for baby and maternity, but also for beauty, home essentials, and gifts and toys for littles here.
I couldn’t have made it through the first trimester without my anti nausea wrist bands and anti nausea candies.
I was able to successfully navigate breastfeeding with the help of healing, silver nursing cups that provided the soothing relief I needed that no nipple butter could do. My trusty Hakaa also came in handy to collect the excess breast milk I produced while nursing my baby, so much so that I was able to freeze and store the excess milk that the Hakaa collected.
Postpartum with my first baby was made easier by being prepared with the best peri bottle, soothing perineal spray, reusable cold and hot packs, and disposable postpartum underwear.

Revisiting the birth of my daughter as I prepare to give birth again
I’ve debated whether or not I wanted to share my birth story with others, or to just keep it tucked away in a diary. Birth stories are not for everyone. Some may find them traumatic, even if it was a story that went happily ever after. And others just can’t stand birth stories because they just see it as other women trying to “out mom each other.” After talking to my husband about it, he gave me the green light and said it would be good for me to share my story with others- for my sake, and theirs.
My intents for sharing my birth story are twofold: One, for me- This is how I’m processing it and coming to terms with everything that did and everything that did not happen. Two, for others- Reading birth stories can be edifying, educational and encouraging.
This is a somewhere-in-the-middle birth story, where some things went perfectly and according to plan, while other things, were devastatingly traumatic.
Ideals, Skepticism and Plans
Once I found out that I was pregnant, I knew instantly that I wanted to look into the possibility of trying to have a natural, unmediated birth with the assistance of a midwife.
